Why does the Nissan GT-R have the nickname R35 and Godzilla?
The GT-R moniker has a long history that can be traced back to the 1960s and to the 50s with the Skyline sedan, which was used as the base for this nameplate. Thanks to its sporting dominance in the 1990s at the Australian Touring Car Championship, it earned the nickname Godzilla, which has since stuck. The name R35 comes from the chassis code used for the current generation of Nissan GT-Rs (older generations are also differentiated by their chassis code: R34, R33, and so forth).
