Once Rimac and Porsche get involved, expect something special.

An electric Bugatti is inevitable. Considering that even Ferrari is set to unveil an EV in 2025 and that Bentley wants to go fully electric by 2030, it's no surprise that Bugatti, another exotic automaker, is set to undergo the same transformation. The big difference, of course, lies in Bugatti's uncertain future.

Last week, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said that Volkswagen will soon decide on Bugatti's future, whereby an expected venture between Porsche and Rimac would see the two take over Bugatti. "Soon" looks like it'll be "very soon" as, following a recent visit we made to Bugatti HQ in Molsheim, we caught wind of the fact that the Rimac/Porsche takeover of Bugatti is set to be announced imminently.

Not only could we get a first idea of what the first electric Bugatti could be like but details of the Rimac/Porsche takeover and how it will all play out should come to light. It's feasible that the new Bugatti EV will feature some of the technology showcased in Rimac's own electric hypercar, the stunning Nevera. Porsche, itself a producer of fine EVs like the Taycan, could potentially oversee the development of the Bugatti EV by Rimac.

Previous reports indicate that Rimac will own a 55-percent majority share of the French automaker. As we await confirmation of all of this, what could we expect the first electric Bugatti to look like? Our render artist's impression above gives us an idea.

Using the spectacular Bolide as a base, we drew inspiration from other Bugattis like the Chiron. Being an electric car, some of the more extreme details were smoothed over and the Bolide's massive rear wing was removed along with its roof scoop. Our 'Bugatti E' gains slim headlights that mimic those of the Chiron and a unique interpretation of the traditional horseshoe grille. If it's anything like the Nevera under the skin, it should be spectacular. The Nevera's four electric motors produce close to 2,000 horsepower and the hypercar can hit 60 mph in under two seconds. Considering that the new Chiron Super Sport is going to cost nearly $4 million, Bugatti's first EV should be even pricier. We'll know more about Bugatti's next chapter soon.
